Gallivanting Adventurer: Crowley's Ridge State Park in Arkansas

This morning my girls and I went to Crowley's Ridge State Park in Arkansas. It is just north of Jonesboro, AR on Highway 141 in a town called Walcott. The park takes me back to a era of long ago with its Civilian Conservation Corp Pavilion from 1937. It is easy to imagine local dances taking place on the upper deck. The chandeliers are also a throw back to days gone bye. In front of the Pavilion is a lake which offers swimming in the summer and paddle boats. Since it is October we didn't partake in a cool dip.

My girls absolutley loved the playground. It had swings, slides, and a slider. There was also a volleyball court and picnic tables all around.

This park also had a nice trail system. We went on the Dancing Rabbit Trail. It was just the right length for a five year old. We were able to get up close and personal with some Arkansas nature. We saw lots of birds, mainly Blue Jays and Mockingbirds, but we did see one Red Headed Woodpecker. The girls also spotted a small snake, lots of small lizards, and one rabbit. Of course most of the birds were to high in the trees to get any really good pictures, but the girls loved it. There were four bridges on the trail, with one of them being a swinging bridge. It was the highlight of our nature walk.
